Kanaskat Palmer State Park, let’s go!

June 25-29, 2018

Finally!  I’m going camping!  On this gorgeous sunny morning, as I was hitching this brand new trailer to the truck to head out camping for a few days, it came to mind how long it had been since the last time I had been camping, in that other trailer that I used to own … about eight months!  Heading out today sure felt good!

And Little Towhee thought so too.  She chirped and chipped and tweeted to beat the band on our way out of town.

When I hitched the trailer to the truck, I purposefully left off the anti-sway/weight-distribution bars.  I wanted to see how the trailer handled without them.  The ride was ok, but the trailer sure did shove the truck around when slowing and braking or when accelerating … not enough to slide the tires, they held firm, but the suspension on the truck rocked and rolled a bit, especially fore and aft.

The ride would have been ok; it was perfectly safe.  But I stopped after 2 or 3 miles and put the bars on, which made quite a bit of difference.  With the bars on, there was still a tiny bit of push-pull but not nearly as much.  I’ll keep those bars on, thank you very much.  And I’ll be checking the adjustment of the trailer brakes when I get home from this trip since they too can cause a bit of fore-aft motion if they aren’t adjusted just right.

Ok, let’s get going and get away from this city!

Ahhhh, out past Fife and out past Ravensdale and out into real trees.  Oh, my, how beautiful and peaceful.  I could feel my shoulders drop and my jaw relax.

I was in site #42, surrounded by a gorgeous green forest.  It’s the same site that I was in during my second trip to Kanaskat last year, with that used trailer that I owned at the time.

Spoiler alert … there are no Woodpeckers to be seen this trip.  I was hoping for the same fine feathered neighbors that I saw last year, but they were not to be seen or heard this trip.  But I did see things during this visit that I didn’t see last year, and I will report on everything … including one really big scary monster, yikes!  😉
