Pacific Beach, back roads are the best

July, 2018

After my visit with the pelicans in the morning, in order to get out of the town of Pacific Shores and back up the coast to the campground, I chose to take the back roads around the edges of the town.  I was in such good spirits and just didn’t want to deal with traffic, you know?

The few vehicles that were also out on these quiet residential back roads were all going as slowly as I was.  It was a nice drive, especially with these other folks (below) who kept me company along the way …

Shortly before arriving back at the Pacific Beach campground, on a whim I took off on a side road that truly was out in the country, with not much of humanity around.  In its own good time, this peaceful, freshwater creek would find its slow, meandering way down to the wild and boisterous ocean.  But for now, it seemed to be in no more of a hurry than I was.

What a lovely day.

It’s so nice to be reminded that there are places like these.

When I sold the boat and then started this land-based adventure, I hoped to find places like these. And now I find there are so many places like these … and so many people like the folks who were working and volunteering at the “Center” who care so deeply and spend their lives helping the earth and her creatures. It gives me hope. And makes me eager for the next trip.

Seeing how you’re at Pacific beach have you been up to Taholah,
There’s a pretty unique Quinault Cultural Museum, on 5th Ave, there, you might find interesting

Oh, thank you for reminding me about that Museum, Mister Ed. I drove up to Taholah (about a 20 minute drive from the campground) on three different days. The Museum was closed every time, even though the sign said it was open and even though I was there during the posted “open” times. I even called ahead the second two times and was told it would be open … but then it wasn’t when I got there. I was sorely disappointed. I saw other stuff in/around Taholah, got to chat with the locals in the store, received permission to walk on the beach and take photos out there, but I sure did want to see that Museum. It’s on the list for my next trip out there.

What wonderful shots you got! I love when days are like this.

Sometimes I feel so pleased with myself … and then sometimes I realize this stuff is happening whether I’m looking or not. Nevertheless, it was a good day. 🙂
      Thanks Dawn.
