This is just a short post to correct my erroneous bird identification in the recent post “Fox Island, Raft Island, and more“.
Here at home, I dug around in some old books and found a Peterson Field Guide series, Western Birds, from 1990. Yes, yes, yes, that list of books that reader Arlene suggested is assuredly on my list to buy, but I haven’t done that yet. Too busy looking at videos about Scotland, I guess.
The Peterson book was very clear about the three birds in the aforementioned post. So, according to Peterson …
This bird was indeed an adult female Common Merganser.
This bird was an adult female Bufflehead.
This bird was an immature female Hooded Merganser.
So much to learn. So much to see. When I make mistakes about bird identification (or animals or trees), please let me know. I sure wouldn’t want to be called a Cherry-Headed Conure if I really wasn’t one! 🙂
