Deception Pass, day 5, evening

October, 2017

A very sweet sunset.

When I walked down to West Beach this evening, I knew it was my last evening of the trip.

I muddled around amongst the driftwood, sat and watched the herons and the seagulls and some cormorants, and I noticed the pink color of a sunset beginning to appear.

I walked along the beach and chatted with a few folks although not many people were here on a cool Monday evening in late October.

The color in the sky continued to deepen gradually … the reflection on rocks and sand was gathering momentum.

Eventually, I simply stopped and stood and enjoyed another extraordinary sunset.  This one didn’t have the same wild ferociousness that blessed us yesterday, but still this one was stunningly beautiful in its own right.

Tomorrow morning I would tidy up my campsite, hitch the trailer to the truck, and head home.

So peaceful and beautiful. I could sit and watch for hours.

This sunset lasted about nine minutes (yesterday’s was about 12 minutes). I wanted more, and yet it’s partly the fact that they pass so quickly that makes them special. But yes, just sitting and watching the beach and the birds and the water and the sky … I can feel my muscles relax, my shoulders drop, my breathing slows down, and I never want to leave.
