Gorgeous wooden van conversion

What a dream come true. If you ever thought about taking an empty, blank van and building it out so that it was just exactly what you wanted, absolutely perfect for you, your dream come true, then you might want to watch the video below.

Or even if you never thought about doing that, still, this is quite a wonderful story about someone doing just that. The woman here, Clare Colins, is so gentle and so kind, and so thoughtful about her Australian home.

She hired others to do almost all of the work although she did some bits and pieces herself … but, she designed every inch of it herself. It’s her design. In the end, it’s also her true home, for her life and for her heart.

So, would you like to see what she did to make her dream come true? Here’s the video from 2020 …

Isn’t that inspiring? Even if you own an RV that generally already has all of the amenities you need, doesn’t this give you pause and maybe make you think about some changes you might like? It sure does for me.

    Clare’s home is so inspirational!
I love her kitchen, her secret bath, all so ingenious.
Such inspiration to boil our belongings down to the
most precious and just live life.

An inspiration indeed! Even to those of us who love our fiberglass trailers. And yes, it’s a great reminder to me to think about what is really important, what is it that I really need in life to feel ok, what is truly precious, how much do I need to have a very good and comfortable life … and how much do I have that just clutters all that up?

I have a small travel trailer that I use part-time, and I’ve done some wood-working improvements to my house/home. This really inspires me!

    • Ann says:

Susan, I bet you’re going to make some super changes and improvements to your travel trailer, sounds like you have some really good wood-working experience. And maybe you might post some photos on line and share them here? If you do, I will surely allow the links to be “live” here. Go for it!

Very nice Elsie article. Thanks Ann. 🙂

That van is really impressive. Someone with woodworking skills (like Susan here) would do wonderful things.

    • Ann says:

Clare’s van is so efficient and so gorgeous isn’t it? Here’s to Susan’s and anyone else’s efforts along the same lines.

Wow, that’s beautiful and useful! Good on ya!

Another Elsie subscriber here. Your blog is super! I love that there is so much camping but also so many other things that have nothing to do with camping, it’s a really interesting conglomeration of topics. I too like the Rooz music, but I too like that Vietnamese guitar piece. As a child I lived in Japan with my military parents for a few years back in the early 1950s, so just a tiny bit earlier than you were in the Philippines, Ann, but probably very similar experiences. The van conversion is fascinating … not sure I could live in such a small space, but some part of me really likes it that small. It sure would be easier to take care of than a house and yard. Thanks for producing this blog, it’s really cool! 🙂

    • Ann says:

Thanks Jamie. Those are really nice words about my blog, makes me smile and makes me feel humble.
That’s super that you spent some of your kid years in Japan! Yep, I bet we had similar experiences. I loved living in the Philippines, hope you loved Japan. I’m sure you have stories to tell.
I had a similar response to the size of the van … I’m not sure I could live fulltime, comfortably, in that small space, with so few windows. On the other hand, I loved the wood! and the fancy windows in the doors and all of the other touches that Clare designed into her home.
Thanks for coming along on this journey, Jamie … I really appreciate everyone here.

I too have enjoyed the diversity of your blogs. This woman’s camper van is amazing. Ann, should you get to Port Orchard again by land, let’s go have a coffee.

    • Ann says:

Donna, that would be great. I have your email address because everyone’s email address shows up (just to me) in the WordPress app when a comment is posted. I’ll let you know when I’m going to be in the Port Orchard area. Thank you. 🙂
