Badgers are beautiful. They really are. And Scottish badgers (I’m Scottish) are particularly beautiful. π
Two days ago, I was about to start writing a blog post about the first day of my first camping trip in 2023 (with edited photos and links, etc, lots of work involved), but instead I caught a huge head cold (no, not covid). But … I can’t breathe, I can’t think, I can’t sleep, my sinuses are all plugged up, my head hurts, and I’m cranky. So I’m going to take a few days’ break and post a simple link to an article about Scottish badgers.
It’s actually a really nice article written by one of my favorite wildlife authors, Jim Crumley. I subscribe to the monthly “The Scots Magazine”, and I always look for Jim’s articles … ok and Polly Pullar‘s articles too.
As soon as my head cold clears up (oh I hope soon!), then I’ll get on with that blog post about my camping trip. But please enjoy Jim Crumley’s writings in the meantime. You can click on the photo in the box below … or you can click on “Secret Lives Of Badgers” in the box below … either will open the online article for you to peruse. Please read it knowing that Jim Crumley is a Scot and speaks (and writes) with a Scottish accent.
Siubhal sona. π Happy travels.
Awwww, I’m sorry you feel so miserable. But the good news is you’re talking about badgers! My maiden name was Badger. I recently learned there are badgers in Michigan, which I never knew. I still sort of don’t believe it but apparently there are some! I think the badger in the picture is adorable…but don’t let looks deceive you…they are ferocious!
Hope you feel better soon!
You’re a badger! I love that. Of course, you are adorable. And I’d bet when it’s needed you are also ferocious. Or, who knows, maybe badgers early in the morning, at “dawn”, are really sweet. π
So sorry you caught that cold. But thankfully it’s not Covid. I know nothing about badgers! Well, except for the Wisconsin Badgers football team and I think that doesn’t count. But the article was really great, what a fascinating guy. Get well soon! π
Thanks Shawn. That head cold is all gone now. Go Badgers! π
Scotland badgers are darling! Yes, they are also aggressive, all badgers are, as Dawn says. But these are darling. π Wonderful article by Jim Crumley. I didn’t know about “The Scots Magazine”. Have just subscribed. Get well soon, Ann. Thank you.
Hope you love that magazine, Babe. I sure do. I pull out articles to keep/save/read again later … but often never look at them again. There is just so much great information and wonderful writings.
Get well soon Ann!!! And the Badger is darling!
Thanks for your stories!
You are welcome, of course. π My head cold is all gone now. More camping coming soon and more stories. Hope you are A-OK too up there in the far north.
Get well soon, don’t let those badgers badger you! π
LOL! Good one, Bill. π
Darn! Bill, you beat me to the “badger” thing. I read this blog post really quickly late last night then logged in just now to advise Ann not to let the badgers badger her … and you’d just done that. π You are brilliant.
Get well soon Ann.
Ok, have to give you credit for the “badger badger” comment too Sesapa. You are both brilliant! π
Nice article. I like that you take us all manner of places around the world to see all manner of things. And that you focus primarily on the Pacific Northwest. I looked up images of “badger” online and found all manner of WEIRD looking badgers. Yep, the Scottish badger is the best. π
My home is in the Pacific Northwest, my birth home and my current home. On the other hand, I’ve lived many other places in the world and loved so many of them. Still, I’m “home” here in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for reading along on my journeys, Mark.
Hey, remember the “honey badger” video? I can’t remember who did it and I can’t find it, but I loved it. There really is a Honey Badger. This Scottish Badger is so much prettier and surely nicer. Fun stuff. π
Get over that cold!
Ah, yes, the “honey badger”. Now that’s an aggressive badger … the most aggressive of ALL badgers, way more aggressive that the Scottish Badger. The “honey badger” doesn’t care, and doesn’t give a shit. It eats poisonous animals, then falls asleep for a few hours, then wakes up and eats more! Ok, here’s the link to that video …
I subscribe to the Scots Magazine too!! I love it. It is so full of wonderful things. At first I figured that Scotland is such a small country that the magazine would not find new things to talk about, but they do, all the time, it’s my favorite “magazine”. I put that in quotes because it doesn’t seem to be the usual commercial magazine … it’s smaller in size, yet it’s full, absolutely chock-a-block full of all sorts of great stuff. Have to be truthful, I hadn’t noticed Jim Crumley’s articles, though Polly Pullar’s articles are always super. Ok, I’ll look for Jim’s … ah, a recent one from him is “A Flight of Fancy” that is truly superb. Yes, Scottish Badgers are the best. π
Ah, yes, me too, June. I too thought it such a small country that maybe there wouldn’t too many interesting things to write about, but the magazine is always crammed full of fascinating things. Oh, Jim Crumley’s “A Flight of Fancy” is one of my favorites. π So cool that you read the Scots Magazine too. Aye!
Oops, we almost missed this blog post. Pretty badger! Get well soon, Ann. π
I’m well, got over this head cold finally. Thanks you two. π Yes, pretty badger.
