Some of you may remember that I follow a video blog written by an English fellow (Andrew Ditton) who lives in his travel trailer (called a “caravan” in Europe). This fellow loves Scotland, especially the islands of the outer Hebrides. Here’s a link to a description of the inner Hebrides so you can see the difference between them. Andrew produces great video blogs of his travels.
I want to share two of his “vlog” videos with you … both are from earlier this year.
The first video below is of the last day of his trip to the Hebrides last winter. He is usually quite emotional when he leaves the islands, since he loves it there so much. In this particular video he doesn’t talk except for just a tiny bit at the beginning. The rest of the video is simply gorgeous. You’ll see the large-mouthed ferry pulling up to a dock on an island in the outer Hebrides, and Andrew driving onto the ferry and, so, leaving the outer islands behind, heading over to Uig on the northern end of the Isle of Skye. Some footage in this video shows some of Andrew’s memories of this trip to the Hebrides, including an airplane ride he took … on an airplane that is the only passenger airplane in the world that takes off and lands on the beach … obviously at low tide!
Then back in “real” time, you’ll join Andrew as he exits the ferry onto Skye, drives down Skye, then crosses a bridge that was built just a few years ago, the bridge that connects the southern end of the Isle of Skye to the mainland of Scotland. Then you’ll ride along with Andrew as he drives through a bit of the stunningly beautiful winter countryside of north-western Scotland. He includes some super terrific drone video.
Be sure to turn your sound on.
The second video (below) is a fun one. Andrew used to work on board passenger trains in England. He loves trains. This particular video is all about his ride on the East Lancashire Railway right outside Bury, just a bit northeast of Liverpool, in England. It’s a great day out for Andrew and his dog, Dougal. You’ll notice at one or two places in the video, while Andrew is on the train, that the train runs right past the campground so Andrew was able to include video of his Airstream travel trailer and his truck in the vlog.
Fun stuff. Enjoy!
Great Hebrides video. Thanks
You are welcome, Tom. I didn’t get out there last trip, but my next trip must include the outer Hebrides.
So amazing and relaxing to watch! Will be sure and subscribe to his channel.
Now I want to travel there too.
I just have to live to be 100 to get to all the places you have
taught us about. Thanks, Ann.
Ha! I feel that way about the places that you and Mark have been to and talked about, Robin. How can I go everywhere?! I’m thinking about living to be 120 and being healthy and active the whole time. What do you think? 🙂
As long as there will be coffee and pie.
Pie! There will be pie, and coffee. I promise.
I volunteered on the East Lancashire line for a few years after my separation from fulltime service on Britain’s railway. It was a lovely treat to watch this video! Thank you so very much.
How wonderful that you were there, and you know it well I’m sure. You are so very welcome.
Ann, we have the same problem. My husband and I continually talk about our options and our limitations of age/time and money … whether to continue RV-ing here in North America and Mexico or do we sell the rig and travel internationally. Another one of your readers may have given us a great new idea … rent an RV (caravan) and see Europe that way. Actually, your other readers where renting an RV here in the US, and they are from England, but it should work the other way around too, yes? It would be less expensive than staying in hotels or B&Bs, we’d have our own place every night with all of our things with us without packing/unpacking every day, and we would definitely interact with the locals more that way. It might just be the answer!
Yes, I’m thinking the same … either rent an RV or rent a canal boat. Let’s go! 🙂
That first video was beautiful! But I wanted to put my mittens on and turn my heat up! LOL!
Ha! I had the same reaction Judy. 🙂
