Victor Borge

Do you remember him? Oh, he was terrific and he was funny. My brother and I and our parents watched him on television every chance we got. We loved him.

Friends of mine recently mentioned him in an email they sent to me. I think the impetus for the mention was that Victor Borge was Danish (just like my re-woven chairs were).

So of course, I then researched Victor Borge online and found lots of videos of him and his performances. I’m going to share just one of them here with you. This particular video (below) is quite an irreverent take on a serious opera. I watched this video sitting at home alone and laughed out loud many times … a good sign. 🙂

Although he makes great fun of all things musical, he’s an absolutely wonderful professional pianist and musician in his own right, and maybe that’s why he can get away with the jokes and still everyone loves him.

It’s a short ten-minute video. I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I do. Turn your sound up.

Next blog post here will be a real camping trip with my truck and trailer to Ridgefield, WA. Get ready!

He was marvelous, a fine pianist who never finished a piece I always wanted to be like him so I wouldn’t have to learn the entire score. He always made me laugh!

Laughter is so important, even with classical music. Hmm, I wonder why there aren’t more people like Victor Borge who poke fun at classical music. He was so good at it!

Nice to be reminded of him; always a fun treat. That was a long time ago..

    • Ann says:

Indeed. Although sometimes “a long time ago” can mean the year 1127, and Victor Borge and our watching him on TV was practically yesterday compared to that, yes? 🙂

I don’t remember that fellow, but my wife does. She couldn’t wait to watch this video and I have to admit we both sat there are laughed out loud. My wife used to play the piano a bit so explained some of the jokes to me but even without that this guy was really clever and funny. After supper we watched it again and laughed just as much. thanks Ann that was really great!

I love Victor Borge’s humour, his timing and delivery, his facial expressions … AND his piano playing. Glad to know you are a new fan, Tim.
